Port Rexton Brewing Company T-Rex Porter – American Porter at 5.8% ABV | 19 IBU

Port Rexton Brewing Company T-Rex Porter American Porter at 5.8% ABV | 19 IBU (C$5.74 at Port Rexton Brewing Company, 473 ml, packaged on 20-Dec-2017, acquired 22-Dec-2017, reviewed 23-Dec-2017)

Appearance: near complete black, with only the merest hint of brown relief at the margins, one fat finger of rocky beige head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: toasted bread, chocolate, coffee, hint of red berries. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate-lively carbonation, dry medium duration slightly tart finish. (3/5)

A solid enough porter, if tending just slightly light for the style. This slight thinness is exacerbated by the higher-than-typical carbonation, which I think is also contributing to a very slight sharpness or tartness in the finish. Not unpleasant, by any means, but I prefer a porter to be more mellow, smooth, and chocolatey, while this is slightly edgy and tart. (14/20)
