Annex Ale Project Cryo-currency IPA – American IPA at 7.1% ABV

Annex Ale Project Cryo-currency IPA American IPA at 7.1% ABV (C$7.80 at Willow Park Wine & Spirits, 650 ml, packaged on 21-Feb-2018, acquired 23-Feb-2018, reviewed 23-Feb-2018)

Appearance: opaque pale gold with two fingers of rocky white head diminishing rapidly to a thin cap, moderate stringy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: pineapple, citrus, melon. (8/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-low bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, juicy medium duration finish. (4/5)

Pretty decent implementation of the style: the juicy fruit aromas and restrained bitterness are pretty much bang-on, as is the juicy texture of the body. The “cryo” part of the name apparently refers to a new one on me: cryo hops, which are cryogenically separated, giving twice the resin content of whole leaf or pelletized product. That additional dose of hops makes this flavourful without being bitter. And by the way I think, this one might take the record for age for me (other than draft/growlers/crowlers, I mean): two days in the bottle. I suspect it’ll be hard to beat that one – just like it’s hard to beat this beer! (16/20)
