2 Crows Brewing All In – Saison at 5% ABV | 17 IBU

2 Crows Brewing All In – Saison at 5% ABV | 17 IBU (C$6.99 at Oak & Vine, 473 ml, packaged on 11-May-2018, acquired 19-Jul-2018, reviewed 23-Jul-2018)

Appearance: hazy straw with one finger of loose white head, good retention and stringy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: vinous grape, oak, wheat, earthy funk, black pepper. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, mild funky tart, low bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-light body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly funky finish. (4/5)

I’ve had half a dozen or more beers by these guys, and not one has been less than a seven, so when I see they’ve got a foedre-aged Wild Saison on offer, you can rest assured I’m trying it. And this is fine, but definitely dominated by the barrel, with vinous oaky notes, and not a lot of “wild”. On the up side, lots of flavour for a low(-ish) ABV ale, which is of course completely in keeping with the original style spec. (15/20)
