Prince Edward Island Brewing Company Rix Craft Light Lager – American Pale Lager at 4% ABV

Prince Edward Island Brewing Company Rix Craft Light Lager American Pale Lager at 4% ABV (2018 Craft Beer Advent Calendar #1, 473 ml, packaged on 22-Jun-2018, acquired 30-Nov-2018, reviewed 1-Dec-2018)

Appearance: hazy pale straw with one finger of rocky white head diminishing rapidly to a persistent cap, moderate lacing. (3/5) Aroma: grass, honey, yeast, citrus. (5/10) Taste: moderate sweet, low bitter. (5/10) Palate: light body, moderate carbonation, off-dry short duration finish. (3/5)

Seriously? This is how they start the advent calendar? With a six month old light lager? Well, whoopdy-fuckin’-do. If there’s any bright spot here at all, it’s that the calendar now has nowhere to go but up – but I’m deeply disturbed by the decision to include what is basically a mass market adjunct lager in a product that’s marketed as a premium “craft” offering. 1. Didn’t get around to buying a calendar this year, So I will have to follow you to see what I missed. Hope it improves for you. If you want to try a really bad beer, go for Moosehead’s Stone Fruit White IPA. Can you give negative #s in a review? Even after several hours of insulating the attic and changing the tires on the car it tastes terrible! I was forewarned and still bought one.

    1. Well, it’s improving – if slowly! I almost didn’t get one myself, but had second thoughts on Friday and snagged the last one at Costco.

Can’t say I’m surprised at your evaluation of that Moosehead. Personally I remain aghast that they can call their shitty-ass macro lager an “IPA”, and am convinced that it’s done irreparable harm to craft beer’s marketability to entire generations of Atlantic Canadians.
