Theoretically Brewing Co. CFC Buster Habanero IPA – American IPA at 5.9% ABV

Theoretically Brewing Co. CFC Buster Habanero IPA American IPA at 5.9% ABV (C$3.00 at The Brewer’s Apprentice, 341 ml, no packaging date or best before, acquired 22-Oct-2017, reviewed 16-Nov-2017)

Appearance: clear pale amber with a massive rocky ivory head, excellent retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: habanero, citrus, caramel malt, floral. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, moderate-high spice. (8/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly bitter and building spicy finish. (3/5)

No idea what the hell the discoverer of the environmental effects of CFCs has to do with IPAs, but this is pretty decent. Lots of fruit on the front end, and quite a respectable pepper burn on the back end. Critically, the peppers don’t come across as green and vegetal (as they so often do) but more earthy and, well, peppery. All right on its own, but I bet it’d go great with tacos. (15/20)
