Collective Arts Brewing Saint of Circumstance Blond Ale at 4.7% ABV | 19 IBU (Gift – thanks, Kath M!, 473 ml, bottle date 18-Aug-2016, acquired 14-Dec-2016, reviewed 19-Dec-2016)
Appearance: hazy straw with one finger of fluffy ivory head, excellent retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: lemon pulp and zest, wheat malt, grassy/herbal, hint of coriander and white pepper. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate tart, light bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium-light body, moderate carbonation, off-dry mildly bitter and peppery finish. (3/5)
A pleasant hybrid ale – I honestly don’t know whether it would be better characterized as a Witbier or an American Pale (or even a session IPA), so I’ve gone with the more general “Blond” moniker. It’s very light, though. That’s not necessarily a criticism, but it definitely makes it a more difficult target to meet. This would probably be a lot more fun if it were a little more… well… everything. As it is, good, but not great. (14/20)
