Deschutes Brewery Neon Daydream – American IPA at 4.8% ABV | 35 IBU (C$3.85 at Collective, 355 ml, packaged on 26-Jun-2020, acquired 4-Aug-2020, reviewed 4-Aug-2020)

Appearance: slightly hazy pale straw with one finger of rocky white head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, minimal spotty lacing. (3/5) Aroma: citrus, crackery pale malt, light grass & floral, faint tropical notes. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-low bitter, hint of tart. (7/10) Palate: light body, moderate carbonation, crisp mild bitter slightly tart finish. (4/5)

Hazy, light, and bright, easy to drink crisp citrus – that’s the up side. The down? It’s not quite boring, but certainly not exciting. It’s hopped with Cashmere, Simcoe, and Lemondrop, and as usual I don’t find the latter all that lemony – but the Simcoe doesn’t tend catty, so that’s good, and the Cashmere doesn’t seem to be presenting a whole lot of tropical notes, so call it neutral. The malt bill includes wheat, flaked oats, and acidulated malt, but I’m really only finding the former. All in all, it’s a light easy drinker, making it a nice lunch or lawnmower beer. (14/20)
