Persephone Brewing Company American Pale Ale – American Pale Ale at 5.5% ABV

Persephone Brewing Company American Pale Ale American Pale Ale at 5.5% ABV (C$7.85 at Hume Hotel Liquor Boutique, 650 ml, no bottle date or best before)

Appearance: clear pale amber with two fingers of rocky ivory head, good retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: big citrus, pine, caramel, light floral and tropical fruit. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderately strong bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, pleasant bitter finish. (4/5)

I have to admit I’m still quite fuzzy on the distinction between APA and IPA. I mean, this is a decent brew on its own merits regardless of what you call it, and it could easily stack up against any number of IPAs I’ve had. Pleasantly hoppy, nice citrus and associated notes, and just enough malt to balance, But, d’ya know what sticks out about this one for me? The “farm fresh” label inside the cap when they don’t DATE THE DAMN BOTTLE. (OK, fine, it tasted fresh, happy? I still want a date.) (15/20)
