Collective Arts Brewing Collective Project: Black IPA – Black IPA at 6.8% ABV | 75 IBU

Collective Arts Brewing Collective Project: Black IPA Black IPA at 6.8% ABV | 75 IBU (C$3.99 at Oak & Vine, 473 ml, bottle date 4-Jan-2017, acquired 11-Mar-2017, reviewed 11-Mar-2017)

Appearance: clear brown with two fingers of dense mocha head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: roasty malt, citrus, dark chocolate, coffee, resin. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, lingering bitter and burnt finish. (3/5)

I went through a brief period of flirting with Black IPA as my new favourite style, before becoming bored with them. This came close to rekindling the old flame, but ultimately comes across as a little too edgy. It verges on burnt, rather than toasted or roasted, making it sharp. Enjoyable, but nothing earth-shattering. (14/20)
