Sweetwater Brewing Company IPA – American IPA at 6.3% ABV | 61 IBU

Sweetwater Brewing Company IPA American IPA at 6.3% ABV | 61 IBU (US$2.29 at Knightly Spirits Orange Blossom Trail, 355 ml, best before 16-Jul-2017, acquired 15-May-2017, reviewed 21-May-2017)

Appearance: clear pale amber with two fat fingers of rocky white head, good retention and moderate lacing. (4/5) Aroma: floral, caramel, citrus, pine, earth. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry lingering bitter finish. (3/5)

A bit… well… “classic” would be a generous way of putting it, I suppose. “Old-fashioned” works too. The hop character struggles to rise above the the caramel malt, making it tend towards something like an English-style IPA. Not entirely, but enough that it feels a bit dated. Decent and solid, but not exciting at all. (14/20)
