Moon Under Water Tranquility California IPA – American IPA at 6.5% ABV | 70 IBU

Moon Under Water Tranquility California IPA American IPA at 6.5% ABV | 70 IBU (C$3.69 at Collective, 473 ml, no packaging date or best before, acquired 16-Jul-2019, reviewed 18-Jul-2019)

Appearance: clear pale amber with two fat fingers of rocky pale ivory head, excellent retention and moderate soapy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: resiny pine, caramel, grass, citrus, floral. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, high bitter. (7/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, building and lingering bitter slightly spicy finish. (4/5)

I guess I get where they’re going with this – old school West Coast, with pine and caramel malt dominant – but it’s, I dunno… just not really clicking for me. Maybe you just can’t turn back the clock to 1990, much as my old ass might like to. Solid, but falls short of exciting. (15/20)
