Crooked Stave Silly Cybies – Belgian Strong Dark Ale at 9% ABV

Crooked Stave Silly Cybies – Belgian Strong Dark Ale at 9% ABV (US$13.99 at Knightly Spirits Orange Blossom Trail, 375 ml, packaged on 1-Nov-2015, acquired 15-May-2017, reviewed 21-Aug-2021)

Appearance: clear ruby tinted amber-brown with one finger of creamy pale beige head diminishing rapidly to a thin cap and ring, spotty soapy lacing. (4/5) Aroma: complex, raspberry, balsamic vinegar, oak, dark fruit, lemon, cherry. (9/10) Taste: moderate-high tart, moderate sweet, low bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium body, moderate carbonation, off-dry tart finish. (4/5)

Blew the dust off this one after more than four years in the cellar. Still has loads of raspberry and balsamic vinegar, with some added underlying complexity of woody notes, dark fruit, and lemony citrus. A bit too much emphasis on the acetic sour at this point, possibly at least partially due to the half decade in the bottle. Still pretty good, though. (17/20)

This will be my 5,005th unique Untappd check-in.
