Dandy Brewing Company 5:02 Hazy IPA – American IPA at 5.8% ABV

Dandy Brewing Company 5:02 Hazy IPA – American IPA at 5.8% ABV (C$4.45 at Collective, 473 ml, no packaging date or best before, acquired 21-Mar-2023, reviewed 23-Mar-2023)

Appearance: hazy pale straw with one finger of fine white head diminishing rapidly to a thin skim, minimal spotty lacing. (3/5) Aroma: zesty citrus, cereal grains, light pine. (7/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter. (8/10) Palate: medium-light body, moderate carbonation, off-dry short duration finish. (4/5)

The most interesting thing about this is the character being so completely out of sync with the ABV. I mean, it’s not a big one by any means, but it drinks like it’s half the actual ABV. The label calls it “bold but balanced”, and while I more or less agree with the latter, the former is really not the case. I’d rate it higher if it had more aroma and flavour going on, because what there is of it, is not bad at all. That said, it drinks nicely, with a clean dry finish that really invites the next sip and makes it pretty crushable overall. Would make a good patio beer. God, I can’t wait for patio weather… (15/20)

This will be my 5,524th unique Untappd check-in.
