Great Notion Brewing & Barrel House So Wrong It’s Ripe – American IPA at 7.0% ABV

Great Notion Brewing & Barrel House So Wrong It’s Ripe – American IPA at 7.0% ABV (C$7.95 at Collective, 473 ml, packaged on 25-Nov-2022, acquired 7-Feb-2023, reviewed 13-Feb-2023)

Appearance: hazy medium gold with two fingers of loose pale ivory head diminishing gradually to a thin cap, spotty soapy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: juicy stone & tropical fruit, citrus, faint pine & floral, hints of tobacco & honey. (9/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate-low bitter. (8/10) Palate: smooth medium body, moderate-soft carbonation, slightly sweet medium duration finish. (4/5)

Brewer notes say this is brewed with Pilsner malt, oats, wheat and rye; clover honey added during fermentation; finished with a “huge Citra dry hop.” Crushable. I didn’t really twig on the honey adjunct until I started to notice the building sweetness in the finish, but once I realized there was honey added it all made sense. It definitely flirts with being too sweet, but ultimately it works for me. That seems to be the overall theme with this brewer: I didn’t have a huge amount of exposure to them prior to this one (n=6) but that experience was pretty emphatically solid (μ=7.9 & σ=0.38) making this pretty much dead average for my experience with them. (16/20)

This will be my 5,486th unique Untappd check-in.
