Parallel 49 Abductor – American IPA at 6.4% ABV

Parallel 49 Abductor – American IPA at 6.4% ABV (C$4.27 at Collective, 473 ml, no packaging date or best before, acquired 15-Apr-2020, reviewed 25-Apr-2020)

Appearance: murkily opaque pale amber with two fingers of fluffy pale ivory  head, good retention and moderate soapy lacing. (3/5) Aroma: mild, pome fruit, field berries, caramel, grass. (6/10) Taste: moderate sweet, moderate bitter, mild tart. (6/10) Palate: medium slightly creamy body, moderate carbonation, sweet and sticky lightly tart finish. (3/5)

I was very hesitant about trying this one. I mean, a rhubarb and pear milkshake IPA? It’s not so much an issue of “what could go wrong?”, as it is, “what could go right?” It might not be quite the train wreck I envisaged – but it’s not far off. In particular, the sharp rhubarb and sweet lactose don’t so much complement each other, as bicker over whose turn it is to hammer the taste buds. Drinkable, but only just. (12/20)
